Great morning wake up call for days you're feeling like poop. =P I've listened to this a few many times and it never gets old. I think many could use a pick-me-up nowadays.

"You spend so much time with other people, you spend so much time tryna get people to like you, you spend trying to fit in that you don't even know who you are. You know other people more than you know yourself.

You study them, you know about them, you wanna hang out like them, you wanna be just like them. You've invested so much time in them that you don't know who you are. I challenge you to spend time by yourself."

There’s Sadness to the Ecstasy

Sunday, December 15, 2013
There’s a great essay written by Sigmund Freud called “On Transience.” In it, he cites a conversation that he had with the poet, Rilke, as they were walking along this beautiful garden. At one point, Rilke looked like he was about to tear up. Freud said,
“What’s wrong? It’s a beautiful day. There’s beautiful plants around us. This is magnificent.”

 And then Rilke says,
“Well, I can’t get over the fact that one day all of this is going to die. All these trees, all these plants, all this life is going to decay. Everything dissolves in meaninglessness when you think about the fact that impermanence is a really real thing.”

Perhaps the greatest existential bummer of all is entropy. And I was really struck by this, because perhaps that’s why, when we’re in love, we’re also kind of sad. There’s a sadness to the ecstasy. Beautiful things sometimes can make us a little sad. And it’s because what they hint at is the exception, a vision of something more, a vision of a hidden door, a rabbit hole to fall through, but a temporary one.

And I think, ultimately that is kind of the tragedy. That is why love simultaneously fills us with melancholy. That's why sometimes I feel nostalgic over something I haven't lost yet because I see its transience.

And so how does one respond to this? Do we love harder? Do we squeeze tighter? Or do we embrace the Buddhist creative of no attachment, do we pretend not to care that everything and everyone will know is going be taken away from us? I don't know if I can accept that. I think I'm more side with the Dylan Thomas quote that says,

"I will not go quietly into that good night but instead rage against the dying of the light."

I think that we defy entropy and impermanence with our films and our poems. I think we hold onto each other a little harder and say,

"I will not let go. I do not accept the ephemeral nature of this moment. I'm going to extend it forever. Or at least I'm going to try."

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Perfume

Tuesday, December 10, 2013
I recently watched a movie called, "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer". The movie is about a man who had an amazing sense of smell and his journey on how to preserve and replicate the human smell. (ie. a person's essence)

His obsession with wanting to create the ultimate perfume sets him on a journey of having to murder girls. All of this was because he didn't have a smell of his own. He had no scent at all and how he realizes that he will never ever be an impact to anyone because he had no smell. Hence, his journey to make the ultimate perfume.

Which got me thinking, smells do make us more attracted to a person. This Christmas, it's time to give the gift of scent to someone special! Here's a fragrance shopping guide to help you shop for it!

Still not too sure what to get? Here's a light suggestion! =P
Give Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue a try this Christmas!

The Mediterranean love story of Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue fragrances continues with a fascinating new chapter. This time, the two lovers chart a new course, with Italian model Bianca Balti cast as a classic Mediterranean beauty who takes the lead in a game of seduction. She is irresistible to David Gandy, who celebrates his third Light Blue advertising campaign with this episode shot in the glittering sapphire blue waters of Capri.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana: “We wanted to capture the electricity and the excitement of a love affair with a strong Mediterranean woman. Bianca has featured in many Dolce&Gabbana campaigns, but to see her with David brings a renewed, relaxed energy to Light Blue. Together, their eyes match the colour of the water, that beautiful endless blue that is the Mediterranean surrounding Capri. Watching it is to dream of plunging into that refreshing sea and feel the sun on the skin, to feel totally free.”

Bianca Balti’s character portrays the Italian femme fatale, and represents the Dolce&Gabbana woman: a self-assured beauty who her lover cannot resist.

Bianca Balti: “Light Blue was one of the first fragrances I wore, and I keep going back to it because when I wear it I am instantly transported back to Capri; the sun on my skin, the smell of the air and the sound of the sea. I love my character in this new Light Blue campaign, she is so feminine and so in control.”

The Designers worked closely with reknowned fashion photographer Mario Testino to create the sequel of the Light Blue story. Transmitting the same effortless allure he captures in photographs, it is a postcard of the Mediterranean, its landscape, romance and beauty. The white rubber raft in front of Capri’s famous Faraglioni rocks; and the lovers, their gaze, their kiss, and their pure white swimsuits.

David Gandy: “The Light Blue Ads are now so famous but when I filmed that first one back in 2007, I had no idea how big it was going to be.”

This time the imagery has a retro Mediterranean look, with Bianca dressed in a 50s style bikini of high-waisted briefs and a balcony bra, like the seaside fashion of Capri when Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Kennedy holidayed there. The island has always been one of Italy’s most beautiful summer playgrounds and the backdrop to many great love affairs.

When the Designers built on the Light Blue story last year with limited edition scents Living Stromboli and Dreaming in Portofino, they sought inspiration in other enchanting seaside Mediterranean ports close to their hearts. Portofino and Stromboli, where the Designers have homes, are picturesque places that also represent the wild beauty of the Mediterranean with their views, the scent of the air, and the blue shade of the sea.

The Designers are extremely proud of Light Blue’s legacy, which includes 14 fragrance awards. Light Blue recently featured in an exhibition at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York as one of the century’s most groundbreaking scents.

“Light Blue fragrances are special because of the many people who cherish them. They wear them and create their own beautiful memories,” say Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

Light Blue Pour Femme

The fragrance attempts to capture the joy of living the light blue Mediterranean life by rediscovering the original celebration of sensual Mediterranean style – capturing sun-drenched summer days and dazzling nights, this colorful, fresh, floral-fruity scent reflects the sexiness of the Mediterranean life.

Its timeless design was inspired by the classic Dolce&Gabbana parfum, and the Light Blue shape is confident but always very feminine. Its light blue cap evokes the clear skies of the Mediterranean. The bottle itself is strong, reflecting today’s modern woman.

Fragrance Notes
TOP – Invigorating Sicilian cedar melds with the crisp vibrancy of apple and the guileless charm of the bluebell, to evoke the essence of a South Italian summer.

HEART – The freshness of bamboo nestles amid a glorious feminine bouquet of decadent jasmine and delicate white rose.

BASE – Redolent citron wood is entwined with voluptuous amber and a suggestive caress of musk.

Light Blue Pour Femme 50ml
RRP: RM256.00

Light Blue Pour Homme
Dolce&Gabbana Light Blue pour Homme aims to capture Mediterranean sensuality. “Light Blue pour Homme is made for the Dolce&Gabbana man: sensual and modern, he likes to take care of himself, enhancing his healthy body with sports. The perfume captures the fresh, spicy and sensual scents of the Mediterranean: which we feel is the perfect playground for seduction.” say Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

The flacon for Dolce&Gabbana Light Blue Pour Homme blends the classicism of the shape that evokes the renowned bottle of Dolce&Gabbana Pour Homme with the modernity and the freshness of a frosted glass and a “sky-blue” cap.

Fragrance Notes:

Top – Refreshing bergamot, juicy, sun-drenched Sicilian mandarin, and the clean scent of frozen grapefruit peel and aromatic juniper. Mediterranean Lightness.

Heart – Aromatic rosemary, the subtle spice of Sichuan pepper and sensual rosewood. Strong Masculinity.

Base – An understated blend of American musk wood, incense and oak moss that together gently establish this signature, sensual scent. Innate Sexiness.

Light Blue Pour Homme 75ml

Remy Martin: The Heart of Cognac

Tuesday, December 03, 2013

Remy Martin is a name that's very rarely heard by the young. Cognac is an acquired taste. I've had the privilege of drinking cognac from a young age due to my father's love for collecting bottles of cognac.

Being the curious cat, I used to grab a sip from my father's glass just to see what the glass of golden brown liquid was all about. My father used to have a good laugh watching my facial expression from tasting it. It didn't take long before I got a hang of how it tasted and from then onwards I would have a glass of cognac with my father whenever possible.

Since 1724, the House of Remy Martin has been driven by one quest - to capture the Heart of Cognac: Fine Champagne Cognac. Only cognacs made from a mixture of Grande and Petite Champagne eaux de vie (with at least 50% Grande Champagne) are allowed to be sold as Fine Champagne Cognac. It's protected by an appellation d'origine contrôlée, the French law of 1938. 80% of all the Fine Champagne Cognac is produced by Rémy Martin.

Rare grapes from the most sought after vineyards, traditional distillation methods, longer maturation in the casks, and all the heart and savoir-faire of the Cellar Master combine to create a cognac of unique harmony, opulence and length on the palate.

Us playing the role of a Cellar Master discovering
the distinct aromatic intensity of Rémy Martin cognacs

Nurturing the eaux-de vie and pushing Fine Champagne to reveal its full potential requires the enduring passion of the Cellar Master, guardian of a craft handed down from Masters to Master. At Remy Martin there have only been 4 Cellar Masters in the past century.

Mich attempts to create her own fine blend of cognac
We were then led into a dark cask room and where the Remy Martin brand ambassador,
Brandon explained the unique taste of Remy Martin V.S.O.P. , Remy Martin Club &
the Remy Martin XO Excellence.

To this day, Rémy Martin continues to respect their distilling traditions by remaining committed to classical methods. The ageing process for a Rémy Martin cognac is between 10 to 37 years, whereas the standard for other brands is 6 years. Such a sophisticated maturation process means Rémy Martin offers discernible tastemakers superiority in colour, aroma and palate.

Centaur Spice, Remy Kaffir & Remy Cucumber

Centaur Spice – Remy Martin VSOP, gingle ale, Angostura bitters

Remy Kaffir – Remy Martin VSOP, Kaffir Lime, fresh grapes, lemon juice, sugar syrup and ginger beer

Remy Cucumber - Remy Martin VSOP, Cucumber syrup, apple juice and lime juice

Our favourite was definitely the refreshing Remy Cucumber!

I sweat. Sometimes, I stink too. I'm very self conscious about my body. I guess I have my mum to thank that for. I can still remember the day my brother and I got into the car after school and the first thing my mum said was, "Hooo! You guys stink!" Next thing I know, my mum was stocking up deodorants whenever she went to Australia for work.

I have been using deodorants for many many many years. For as long as I can remember, I can never walk out the house without rolling it on. When I do forget, I worry so much that I start perspiring even more! I would even try to smell myself to see if I may smell funky to others! That's how worried I am of being smelly!

That's only because I really hate it when I'm stuck in a room with a person who stinks! I mean, should I tell? Does the person know? I mean, he or she should know! Don't they smell themselves?? I just don't get it! How can they not know?

I recently had enough courage to tell a friend that he had bad BO. Trust me, I felt so guilty after. It was utterly uncomfortable for me. Also, I have not been able to face him nor talk to him ever since. Out of guilt, out of shame. But, know that I did it for his own good. Hoping that he would take this opportunity to seriously do something about it! I mean, it is a simple solution! Really simple!

Deodorant/ Antiperspirant
  1. 1.
a substance that removes or conceals unpleasant smells, esp. bodily odors.

And it works! I swear by it! If you don't believe me, come and smell me! Without it, I feel horrible and insecure! Hence, I cannot understand it when people don't think they need it! Especially the ones who actually do stink! I'm not insulting. Don't get me wrong. I stink too! When I don't roll on any!

In my lifetime, I have met so many who stinks. So many times have I thought to set them straight but because I didn't want to embarrass them or come face to face with an uncomfortable situation, I choose to walk away and avoid them as much as possible. I can't even really be friends with them!

It's not that I don't like them. My nose just doesn't. I've had cases where I choke up for fresh air. I carry a menthol inhaler with me everyday just in case I have to put up with SMELLS! So, trust me when I say I'm really for thankful for the good people at NIVEA who shares the same sentiments for bad BO and perspiration!

NIVEA Stress Protect Anti-perspirant Roll-On: RM 9.50
NIVEA Stress Protect Anti-perspirant SprayRM 14.50

NIVEA Stress Protect Anti-perspirant, it's specifically designed and tested to combat stress sweating! Not forgetting the smell that your armpits never cease to emit.

Heat Sweating is caused by physical activities or heat that increase body temperature causing perspiration all over the body with the usual sweat smell

Stress Sweating is caused by hormones when stressed. It's less controllable primarily around the armpits, forehead and palms that emits intense body odour and smells worse than heat sweating.

Its unique antibacterial formula combines two ingredients - Stress Protect actives and Zinc complex - giving you reliable anti-perspirant protection against sweat and body odour. Extra Protection also against stress sweating, 48h anti-perspirant protection and gentle NIVEA Care and skin tolerance dermatologically proven.

So, ask yourself again. Honestly. Do you stink? Ask your best friend. Ask your parents. Ask them to tell you honestly. You never know! It could totally change your life! You'll be confident and people wouldn't stay a few feet away from you, holding their breath. *just sayin'*

Don't give me the "I don't wanna die of cancer" thing. Would you rather people remember you as the person who stinks? Because I  remember every single person who stinks. Also, if I don't remember... it means I have seriously shut the person out of my life. *brutal truth*

If you stink, here's your chance to redeem yourself! Well, if you don't stink and you test out the anti-perspirant feature, this is the place to get it! I'm giving away 5 SETS of NIVEA Stress Protect Anti-perspirant!

Ho! Hey!

Thursday, November 07, 2013
(Ho!) I've been trying to do it right
(Hey!) I've been living a lonely life
(Ho!) I've been sleeping here instead
(Hey!) I've been sleeping in my bed
(Ho!) I've been sleeping in my bed
(Ho!) So show me family
(Hey!) All the blood that I will bleed
(Ho!) I don't know where I belong
(Hey!) I don't know where I went wrong
(Ho!) But I can write a song

1, 2, 3
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweet

(Ho!) I don't think you're right for him
(Hey!) Think of what it might have been if you
(Ho!) Took a bus to China Town
(Hey!) I'd be standing on Canal
(Ho!) And Bowery

(Ho!) And she'd be standing next to me

1, 2, 3
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweet

Love we need it now
Let's hope for some
Cause oh, we're bleeding out

1, 2, 3
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweet
